Fenty Skin: Here’s What You Need to Know About Rihanna’s New Skincare Brand

If you’ve never felt that you could relate to Rihanna, you will now. The 31-year old singer is known for her flawless complexion, but it wasn’t always that way. Like many of us, she struggled with skin problems as a teen—she even tried a product that once discoloured her skin. Inspired by her own skincare journey and global lifestyle, Fenty Skin is Riri’s vision of an effective, approachable and feel-good skincare that’s also kind to our planet.

And as we’d expect from the woman who made 40 shades of foundation, the new skincare line promises to be inclusive, meeting the needs of all genders, skin tones, types and concerns. Hold your excitement no more, because we’re about to fill you in on all the deets about the long-awaited beauty drop.

The Fenty Skin Start’rs

The first drop for Fenty Skin is a trio of products called Fenty Skin Start’rs. Featuring the Total Cleans’r Remove-It-All Cleanser, the Fat Water Pore-Refining Toner Serum and the Hydra Vizor Invisible Moisturiser, the line focuses on streamlining the skincare ritual down to three steps. Each product is a 2-in-1 multitasker “that works, is easy to use and everyone can apply,” says Riri.

First up is the oil-free, non-comedogenic Total Cleans’r that doubles as a makeup remover. Say goodbye to makeup wipes—this coconut-and-cherry-smelling cleanser claims to remove all longwear makeup, oil, dirt or pollution without stripping or drying. If you drag to remove your makeup before bed, this cleanser makes it self-care, not a chore.

If you’re looking to change up your 10-step skincare routine, the Fat Water Pore-Refining Toner Serum may be a good start. A universal game-changer that works to tighten pores, reduce dark spots and control oil, this toner-serum combo has a thick texture that absorbs instantly. Forget about cotton pads, the website says you can simply pout it into your palm to apply—Fenty Skin is all about being earth-conscious (more on that later)!

The final product, which we find the most impressive, is the Hydra Vizor, a reef-friendly, broad-spectrum moisturiser that contains SPF 30. Touted as “the one product Rihanna can’t live without”, this 2-in-1 sunscreen and moisturiser has a light tinted pink that works well with all skin tones, which means no white case and you can expect it to melt instantly into skin—basically invisible under makeup.

Gender neutral

In true Riri fashion, Fenty Skin is set to challenge the industry standard as an inclusive skincare brand. With the first Fenty Skin campaign kicking off with a stellar line-up of A-list faces including A$AP Rocky, Halima Aden and Paloma Elsesser, the message is clear: skincare is gender neutral.

“Everybody has skin, and everybody should take care of it, so I never approached skincare or making this line from a gender standpoint. I didn’t want anyone to feel excluded or be excluded,” says Rihanna.


Rihanna is starting an earth-conscious evolution—and we’re on board. For starters, the Hydra Vizor moisturiser comes with a refillable packaging made with 40% PCR (post-consumer recycled material). Fenty Skin is all about eliminating excess packaging, while all of its shipping boxes are all recyclable.

“I wanted the packaging to be beautiful, but also functional with an earth-conscious approach. We eliminated boxes where we could, we have refill systems, and we use recycle,” says Rihanna.

Clean Beauty

Having lived in New York City, Los Angeles and London, it’s only natural for the Barbados-born singer to source ingredients inspired by the whole world. Fenty Skin is everything Riri wished she had when she was younger, so the emphasis here is clean, vegan, gluten-free and oil-free formulas combining robust ingredients like vitamin C-rich Barbados cherry, coconut, and fresh desert melon with clinically proven skincare ingredients—think hydrating hyaluronic acid and anti-inflammatory niacinamide.

Fenty Skin launches exclusively on starting July 31, with international shipping to countries in Asia, including Japan, Singapore, Thailand, South Korea and Philippines.
