How Spa and Beauty Events are Responding to Covid-19
The ongoing crisis has forced organisers to postpone major gatherings around the globe.
March and April 2020 were meant to be busy months for the world’s spa and beauty professionals with several major industry events taking place in Europe and Asia. But as the threat of Covid-19 continues its spread, organisers have had to make the difficult decision to postpone all large gatherings until later in the year. Read on for the latest developments.
Asia Pacific Spa & Wellness Coalition Round Table
Established in 2006 to meet the challenges presented by the evolution and growth of the region’s spa industry, the Asia Pacific Spa & Wellness Coalition was due to host its annual Round Table on March 12 and 13 in Da Nang, Vietnam. Planned activities included a master class on the evolution of health tourism, briefings on traditional therapies and the rising stars of wellness, social gatherings and an awards dinner. The Round Table has been postponed to July 12-13, pending further developments.

Cosmoprof Worldwide Bologna
The 53rd edition of the premier international B2B event for the cosmetic industry was expected to attract more than 3,000 companies and more than 265,000 attendees to Bologna, Italy, on March 12-15. The highly anticipated event includes Cosmopack, Cosmoprime, the Hair, Nail & Beauty Salon plus 23 international pavilions from countries such as Belgium, China, Greece, Korea, Latvia and for the first time, Mongolia, the Czech Republic and Russia. After initially postponing the event to June 11-15, organisers announced on March 12 that it would be delayed further to September 3-7 due to emergency decrees in Italy and the rest of the world.
(Update: Due to the current economic situation and COVID-19 emergency, the 53rd edition of Cosmoprof Worldwide Bologna is now scheduled March 18-22, 2021.)

World Spa & Wellness Convention
Europe’s largest gathering of spa and salon professionals includes a two-day programme designed to help top management expand their businesses as well as the annual World Spa & Wellness Awards, which this year covers 15 categories ranging from Day Spa of the Year to Sustainable Spa of the Year and Worldwide Health & Wellness Destination of the Year. The 2020 programme has been split into two streams, the Business of Spa and Wellness in Spa, to give delegates more targeted educational opportunities. Originally scheduled for March 29-30 in London, the convention is now postponed to October 11-12.

World Fitness & Wellness Summit, Exhibition & Awards
Finally, here in Asia, the region’s largest fitness and wellness conference was expected to bring together more than a thousand business owners, managers and investors along with more than 75 speakers and 50 exhibitors at Singapore’s Raffles City Convention Centre on April 14-16. In addition to the thought leadership conference and exhibition, the must-attend event features multiple networking opportunities and an industry awards dinner. To maximise the health and safety of all involved, the summit has been postponed to August 2-5.
(Update: the summit has been further delayed to May 17-19, 2021)
