Sneak Peek: One&Only Desaru Coast
The ultra-luxury resort brand unveils its first outpost in Asia.
A secluded coastline just two hours’ drive from Singapore is becoming one of the region’s latest hot spots.
Already home to a Westin, Hard Rock Hotel and a newly opened Anantara, Malaysia’s Desaru Coast will this month welcome ultra-luxury resort brand One&Only’s first property in Asia. One&Only Desaru Coast sits on 128 acres of soft sand and tropical flora with 42 self-contained Junior Suites, two two-bedroom Grand Suites and a four-bedroom Villa One, each with its own private plunge pool.
Kerry Hill Architects’ modern design takes its cues from a traditional Malaysian kampung, or village, with generous indoor and outdoor living spaces and natural hues that blend into the surrounding rainforest. Public spaces include four restaurants and bars: Ambara, serving Mediterranean fare made with local produce; Hoshi, specialising in Japanese tempura; Essential, a poolside venue with local dishes; and the open-air Dusky Monkey Bar. Ember Beach Club, meanwhile, serves up live music, water sports and inventive barbecue by Singapore-based chef Andrew Walsh.
Wellness is also a major part of the offerings here, with the brand’s very first One&Only Spa by Chenot. The partnership, announced in May 2019, aims to provide a scientific approach to wellness based on the Chenot Group’s extensive background in ageing and physiology. Guests can opt for a bespoke programme that includes a meal plan, fitness classes, targeted spa treatments and stress-relieving activities. The spa also features a fully equipped fitness studio, yoga pavilion, Pilates studio and Pedi:Mani:Cure Studio by Bastien Gonzalez.
Opening date: September 6, 2020
